Things had started to wind down in Viet Nam long before I would have gotten worried about the draft...but still, in one way or another, everyone was involved. If it wasn't your kid or your brother, then it was the neighbors kid or your best friends brother.

It eventually got so bad that my “Law & Order” parents told me years later that if I had been old enough to go, they would have arranged & financed my exit to Canada. Thought I knew the old man pretty well, but I was shocked to here him say that.

I remember the huge May Day march in '71 shutting down the whole city. Machine gun nests on the White House lawn, Huey's landing on the Washington Monument grounds, National Guardsman everywhere. They block the bridges, set fire to cars, cut down trees on the smaller roads. This was a well organized, full blown, violent, gorilla action involving 10's of thousands of trained, pissed off college kids from around the country. Still, the war went on.

Unless you folks have a hell of allot of faith in Cindy Sheehan getting this done by herself, I don't see a reason in the world why this won't continue well into a democratic administration.

The war machine will undoubtedly finance this next election, and if all congress sees are our cards and letters, no TV coverage and a few Op-Eds from Olbermann, what's the incentive to mess with the gravy-train. And we all know, the only thing it's ever been about is that god damn gravy-train!
