Where did all the feminists go?

Added a post Jan 4

I think that the feminist movement is worth looking at. In the summer, I took an interesting course to finish my degree, and in the course I read some articles on the declining feminist movement. ... Read More »

The Sex Trade

Ever since I read Victor Malarek's book "The Natasha's: The New Global Sex Trade" a couple years ago, I have had a hard time thinking of any issue other than human trafficking. After reading the book, I watched several films on the issue; to name a few, "Human Trafficking", "Trading Women", "Bangkok Girl", and "Sisters & Daughters Betrayed". Yet every time I try to start discussion with people on this topic, they start to disbelieve what I say. The other day I was speaking with a man who fr…

Hi Bre,
Thanks for inviting me to be your junkie friend. I look forward to bumping into you in the forums. By the way, I thought Hobbits were fictional and they didn't wear shoes. I learn something new every day on this site.

Hi Bre, thanks for the friend invite - I definitely think we share some similar interests. I'm actually wondering what you think of this: most of what we see on the news - even TRN - is negative: emphasizes problems (wars, tragedies, conflict, etc) and not potential. Of course these things are very important, but how might things change if 'news' wasn't all bad? I mean, what we are informed on is not really representational of all that is out there - there is some REALLY GOOD STUFF going on! I kind of feel that a lot of the apathy that exists might be alleviated, and we'd be enticed into positive action if we saw more that filled us will hope. I even find some of the conversations on this forum a little deflating. What are your thoughts on this matter? Is good news just fluff, or is it what we need to enable us to believe our little lives matter and can make a contribution?

sure does, I'll get at it when I return. one way could be to post a different blog for each documentary and write a piece for each. :)

Would it be possible to create a kind of forum in the documentary junkies group, where we can arrange a kind of blog for each documentary that we have seen and have an opinion about? In that way we can create some fuzz around which we consider important and would like to recommend to others - also as a kind of review of each...I digest so many documentaries that it would have been good to put down some thoughts about each...hehe:-) C
